Celebrating the Work that Keeps Our City Moving: UCCW at the DPW Touch a Truck Event
On Monday, May 12, the team at United Community Center of Westchester, Inc. had the honor of participating in the vibrant DPW Touch a Truck event, hosted by the New Rochelle Department of Public Works in celebration of the upcoming National Public Works Week 2025.
From 4:00 to 7:00 PM, families gathered on the front lawn of New Rochelle City Hall for an afternoon full of learning, fun, and community engagement. Children had the exciting opportunity to get up close to the large trucks and essential vehicles that keep the city running, while also enjoying arts and crafts activities and delicious food trucks.
For UCCW, events like these reaffirm our commitment to civic education, collaboration, and community connection. We were proud to share this space with so many families, learning more about the important work of our public servants and honoring their everyday efforts to maintain and improve our city.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to New Rochelle City for creating such a meaningful and interactive event and for allowing us to be part of this wonderful day. The energy, participation, and shared purpose on display reminded us all that building a strong city begins with recognizing those who support it from the ground up.

Celebrando el trabajo que mueve a la ciudad: UCCW en el evento DPW Touch a Truck
Este lunes 12 de mayo, el equipo de United Community Center of Westchester, Inc. tuvo el honor de participar en el vibrante evento DPW Touch a Truck, organizado por el Departamento de Obras Públicas de la Ciudad de New Rochelle como parte de la celebración anticipada de la Semana Nacional de Obras Públicas 2025.
Desde las 4:00 hasta las 7:00 p. m., familias enteras se acercaron al césped frontal del City Hall para vivir una experiencia educativa, interactiva y divertida. Los niños y niñas pudieron explorar de cerca los imponentes camiones y vehículos que mantienen en funcionamiento los servicios esenciales de la ciudad, mientras participaban en actividades de arte, manualidades y disfrutaban de deliciosas opciones de comida.
Para UCCW, este tipo de eventos comunitarios refuerzan nuestro compromiso con la educación cívica, el trabajo colaborativo y el fortalecimiento de los lazos vecinales. Nos llena de orgullo haber compartido este espacio con tantas familias, aprendiendo y reconociendo el valor del trabajo que día a día realiza el equipo de Obras Públicas de New Rochelle.
Queremos agradecer sinceramente a New Rochelle City por abrir este espacio a la comunidad y permitirnos ser parte de una jornada tan significativa.
