Summer of Hope Children’s Camp – A Season of Growth, Joy, and Dreams

This summer, the United Community Center of Westchester (UCCW) hosted its annual Summer of Hope Children’s Camp, a multi-day program designed to nurture both children and their families through learning, play, and emotional support.
Throughout the camp, children enjoyed a safe and joyful indoor environment filled with creativity, discovery, and laughter. Each activity was thoughtfully designed to encourage self-expression, teamwork, and confidence, helping every child to thrive in a space that celebrated imagination and belonging.
While the children played, learned, and built friendships, their parents also benefited from the program. Twice a week, families were given the opportunity for parents to take time for themselves—to rest, seek employment, run errands, or focus on their personal well-being. This holistic approach reflects UCCW’s belief that when families are supported as a whole, hope and strength grow together.
One of the highlights of the camp took place on August 18, when local heroes visited the children for an unforgettable experience. The New Rochelle Fire Department shared lessons about service, bravery, and teamwork, while the New York State Police inspired the young campers through stories of dedication and responsibility.
That afternoon, the children had the chance to dream out loud—sharing what they aspire to become when they grow up. The room was filled with excitement, pride, and the certainty that every child carries a bright future within them.

Verano de Esperanza – Una temporada de crecimiento, alegría y sueños
Este verano, el United Community Center of Westchester (UCCW) celebró su Campamento Infantil “Verano de Esperanza”, un programa de varios días diseñado para fortalecer a los niños y sus familias a través del aprendizaje, el juego y el acompañamiento emocional.
Durante el campamento, los niños disfrutaron de un entorno seguro y alegre, lleno de creatividad, descubrimiento y risas. Cada actividad fue cuidadosamente pensada para fomentar la expresión personal, el trabajo en equipo y la confianza, brindando a cada niño la oportunidad de crecer en un espacio que celebra la imaginación y el sentido de pertenencia.
Mientras los niños jugaban, aprendían y hacían nuevos amigos, sus padres también se beneficiaron del programa. Dos veces por semana, tuvieron la oportunidad de dedicarse tiempo a sí mismos: descansar, buscar empleo, hacer diligencias o simplemente tomar un merecido respiro. Este enfoque integral refleja la convicción de UCCW de que cuando se apoya a la familia como un todo, la esperanza y la fortaleza florecen juntas.
Uno de los momentos más especiales del campamento tuvo lugar el 18 de agosto, cuando héroes locales visitaron a los niños para brindarles una experiencia inolvidable. El Departamento de Bomberos de New Rochelle compartió enseñanzas sobre el valor del servicio y el trabajo en equipo, mientras que la Policía del Estado de Nueva York inspiró a los pequeños con su compromiso y dedicación.
Esa tarde, los niños compartieron con entusiasmo lo que desean ser cuando crezcan. El ambiente se llenó de sonrisas, emoción y la certeza de que cada niño tiene un futuro brillante por delante.
El UCCW se enorgullece de continuar creando espacios que inspiran esperanza, fortalecen a las familias y construyen una base de amor y oportunidades para las generaciones futuras.
