We Are Essential, Not Invisible: Marching for Dignity, Rights, and Justice

On May 1st, International Workers’ Day, we joined thousands of voices across New York State to demand what is long overdue: dignity at work, labor protections, and the recognition of those whose daily efforts keep this country running.
At the United Community Center of Westchester, Inc. (UCCW), we marched not only to honor this historic day but also to shine a light on the daily injustices and hardships workers—especially immigrants and vulnerable individuals—continue to face.
Unseen Struggles: The Everyday Reality for Too Many Workers
While many are called “essential,” the truth is their rights remain neglected.
🛠️ Long hours with low pay
🛠️ Unsafe working conditions with no protections
🛠️ Fear of retaliation for speaking out
🛠️ Discrimination, harassment, and exploitation—especially among undocumented workers
These are not isolated incidents—they reflect a system in urgent need of reform. Being essential should never mean being expendable.
New York for All: Why This Legislation Must Pass
That’s why we raise our voices in support of the New York for All Act—a critical piece of legislation that prohibits local and state agencies from collaborating with federal immigration enforcement.
This law would ensure that immigrants can go to work, school, or seek medical help without fear of being detained or deported. It would allow families to live with dignity and without the constant shadow of fear.
We believe safety and justice should not depend on your immigration status.
A Future Rooted in Justice
At UCCW, our commitment is clear: to stand with and for all workers—regardless of immigration status, language, or background—so that their rights are respected and their voices heard.
Yesterday we marched. Today we continue to organize. Tomorrow, we will still be fighting for a more just and equitable future.
New York for All must be passed. Our communities can’t afford to wait.

Somos Esenciales, No Invisibles: Marchamos por Dignidad, Derechos y Justicia
Este 1º de mayo, Día Internacional del Trabajador, nos unimos a miles de voces en todo el estado de Nueva York para exigir lo que es justo: condiciones laborales dignas, respeto a nuestros derechos, y el reconocimiento real de quienes mueven la economía con su trabajo diario.
Desde el United Community Center of Westchester, Inc. (UCCW), marchamos no solo para conmemorar una fecha histórica, sino para visibilizar las dificultades estructurales que enfrentan cada día los trabajadores, especialmente inmigrantes y personas en situaciones vulnerables.
Las Injusticias Silenciadas: Realidades Que No Podemos Ignorar
Aunque muchos trabajadores son llamados “esenciales”, lo cierto es que sus derechos siguen siendo ignorados.
🛠️ Jornadas laborales extensas y mal remuneradas.
🛠️ Ambientes de trabajo inseguros, sin acceso a medidas básicas de protección.
🛠️ Amenazas de despido o represalias al alzar la voz.
🛠️ Discriminación, acoso y explotación, especialmente entre trabajadores inmigrantes sin estatus legal definido.
Estas situaciones no son aisladas. Son parte de un sistema que necesita transformarse desde sus cimientos. Ser esencial no puede significar ser explotado.
New York for All: Una Legislación Urgente y Necesaria
Por eso, alzamos la voz con más fuerza que nunca para exigir la aprobación del proyecto New York for All, una propuesta que prohíbe la colaboración entre agencias locales y federales en la aplicación de leyes migratorias.
Esta ley es vital para que los inmigrantes puedan ir al médico, a la escuela o reportar abusos laborales sin miedo a ser detenidos o deportados. También permitiría que muchas familias vivan con un poco más de tranquilidad y seguridad, sabiendo que su presencia en este país no será criminalizada.
Un Futuro Con Justicia: Nuestra Lucha No Se Detiene
El compromiso de UCCW es claro: luchar junto a nuestra comunidad por un mundo donde todos los trabajadores—sin importar su estatus migratorio, idioma o lugar de origen—sean tratados con dignidad.
Ayer marchamos, hoy seguimos organizándonos, y mañana seguiremos exigiendo un futuro con justicia, equidad y respeto.
#NewYorkForAll debe ser aprobado. No podemos seguir esperando.
